Summer Camp: Meet the Instructors


Mackenzie Romriell

Mackenzie Romriell is an assistant professor of music at Southern Virginia. She teaches applied voice lessons and conducts Bella Voce. Dr. Romriell received her Bachelor of Music degree from Idaho State University and recently completed her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Vocal Performance with a minor in Theatre Arts at the University of Arizona, where she also received her Master of Music degree. While at Arizona, Romriell stage directed the opera scenes program, taught applied voice lessons, and instructed numerous general music classes. She also performed in multiple, fully staged operas while at Arizona. Some of her most memorable roles include Baba from Menotti's The Medium, Sesto from Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, La Principessa from Puccini's Suor Angelica, The Witch from Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel, and Dorabella from Mozart's Cosi fan tutte.

Romriell’s career has also included working with Opening Minds through the Arts (OMA), an arts integration program in the Tucson Unified School District. This program is dedicated to integrating various art forms into the core curriculum. Within OMA, she worked as an Arts Integration Specialist, an Opera Teaching Artist, and served as a member of the Design Team for three years. During her service within the program, Romriell influenced thousands of children and was helpful in providing them with meaningful and lasting musical experiences.

In addition to her operatic experiences, Romriell has been a member of the staff with Choral Rendezvous, a week-long summer choral camp, since 2005, and has been the artistic co-director for Choral Rendezvous since 2015.

Dr. Romriell lives in Buena Vista with her husband, Steven, and four children.
